Youth Section & Junior Squad for those individuals with an enthusiasm for cycling. The club is based in Hemel Hempstead, but covers Herts, Beds & Bucks
Hemel Hempstead Cycling Club is open to all ages and abilities. We have approximately 50 members under 18 years: a youth section for ages 7-14 and a junior squad for ages 15-18. The adult section for 18+ is open to anyone with an enthusiasm for cycling.
We are a Clubmark club and all our coaches are trained by British Cycling to national standard coaching qualifications. This includes training on providing fair and open access to all. The coaches will therefore take into account the specific needs of the rider when delivering coached sessions and this applies equally to able-bodied and disabled riders.
We run off-road mountain bike rides for the youth section on the first Saturday of the month. We organise other events such as trips to the velodrome, road circuits, cyclo-cross and mountain bike races throughout the year. We run bike handling skills courses twice a year.
Membership costs £5 per year for under 16’s and £10 per year for 16-18years. The monthly mountain bike rides are free to members. Other events usually have a small charge, usually less than £5 per session.
The club has a clubroom at Nash Mills activity centre, Hemel Hempstead, although the majority of activities take place outdoors in the lanes and bridleways all around Herts, Beds and Bucks.
We welcome all members who wish to cycle and also anyone who would like to become involved in administration (officials, timekeeping, club management or coaching). British Cycling has recently launched a scheme for young volunteers which could be used as the framework for this type of involvement.
